The Red Flowering Quince, Chaenomeles speciosa, is valued for its spring flowers. The single or double rose like flowers emerge in clusters of 24, often before leaves develop. The oblong, serrated foliage opens bronze red and fades to a glossy dark green. It is very nice for a shrub border or espaliered to wall. Cut branches with swollen flower buds may be forced indoors, making a welcomed winter flower arrangement. To prune, remove only crossing, diseased or broken branches. Daffodil – Cyclamineus – Jack Snipe

The Daffodil ‘Jack Snipe ‘Narcissi cyclamineus a fall planted bulb, is a cute little Narcissus with vivid yellow cups contrasting with the pure white petals. They are ideal in clusters in the rock garden, in borders or for naturalizing. The blooms are very long-lasting and they will reproduce for years. The blossoms last up to 4 weeks and appear in very early spring. Jack Snipe bulbs, once planted, can remain in the ground for many years. They will multiply and produce the most abundant flowering results in the 2nd and 3rd year. If necessary, very large clumps of bulbs can be lifted as soon as the leaves wither, and then they can be divided and replanted as soon as possible. After flowering, let the leaves yellow before cutting them back. The plants are deer, rabbit, and squirrel resistant.

Hydrangea – Compact PeeGee

Compact PeeGee Hydrangea, Hydrangea paniculata ‘Compact is a compact shrub that has large, white, cone-shaped flowers blooming in late summer that mature to a pinkish-bronze towards autumn. The compact size makes it a great choice for a foundation or border planting and is the most cold-hearty of all hydrangeas. PeeGees bloom from mid to late summer through early fall. Flowers start out white; as they age, they turn pink and then rust colored in the fall. Often the flowers are dried for beautiful indoor arrangements that can be enjoyed year round. This large shrub-tree form prefers full to partial sun. It reaches a height and spread of about 6 feet. Lily – Asiatic – Lollipop

American Maidenhair Fern

The American Maidenhair Fern, Adiantum pedatum, is a deciduous, clump-forming fern which typically grows 1. 5 to 2′ tall and is most frequently found on rich wooded slopes, ravine bottoms and damp shady woods. American Maidenhair Ferns prefer moist, shady conditions, but will grow in sunnier spots if kept moist. It features finely-textured, somewhat frilly fronds which have curved stalks and are palmately-divided (i. e. , fronds divide into finger-like projections). The Maidenhair will grow in colder areas if the plant has good air circulation. This fern is a perennial and is deciduous in colder climates. Wiry stems are reddish-brown to black. Crosiers (coiled young fiddleheads) emerge pink in spring. This is a wetlands plant that does not flower or bloom. The attractive foliage is showcased in container plantings, foundation plantings, and groundcovers.
