The Pea Shelling Green Arrow, ‘Pisum sativum’, is a very productive, dwarf plant with large 4 inch pods containing 9 to11 wonderful sweet peas per pod. Remember when you were a kid how fun it was to pop open a pod and eat the Peas? As an adult, you will enjoy the wonderful taste of Green Arrow peas and appreciate the dwarf, 2 foot vines for ease of growing. Green Arrow is very disease resistant. The pods are set in pairs atop the plant for easy harvest.Plant in the early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. In mild climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. Peas prefer well drained soil. Keep the plants moist but do not get them over watered and soggy. Shelling peas should be harvested when the pods are plump which is about 3 weeks after flowering.

The Austrian Pine, Pinus nigra, is a densely branched tree producing long dark needles. This evergreen conifer tree thrives in urban locations as well as in windbreaks in more rural settings. It does well in a variety of soils and is very hardy. The spreading branches of a young tree form a pyramidal outline, but at maturity, it sometimes achieves a picturesque flat topped head. This fast growing pine tree makes an attractive Christmas tree when sheared. It will tolerate both limestone or acidic soils, dry rocky locations and windy conditions. Also good for thick screens or windbreaks. For screen, space 6 feet apart. When placed in a good site it should reach 5 ft. in height in 6-7 years starting with a 2 year old seedling.

The Gladiolus May Bride, ‘Gladiolus May Bride’, a spring planted corm, exhibits magnificent white flowers with yellowish centers on tall stalks. Gladiolas are also commonly called Sword Lily or Corn Flag. Plant in groups of six or more in the garden, or grow lots of them for cuttings in a bed. The Cote d’Azur Pinks, ‘Saponaria ocymoides’, is one of the most beautiful, useful and low care, hardy perennials. Deep pink and unscented flowers make an excellent ground cover, edging or rock-garden plant. Its tiny semi- evergreen foliage is almost totally covered with flowers in June. Dense, compact, with a spreading and trailing habit which is ideal for banks, terraces or low walls. Thrives anywhere. The bulbs are best planted in autumn while they are still plump.
